Communication Coaches for AY24/25 Term 1



Having problems with your term papers and oral presentations? Get help from our coaches!

CEC provides consultation sessions where you can have your writing and presentation reviewed by our communication coaches for free. These specially trained student coaches will help you overcome the challenges of structuring and presenting your class assessments.

Announcement: Consultation slots will be available for booking from 02 September 2024, 9am.


Consultation Periods

  • Week 4: 09 Sep 2024 to 13 Sep 2024
  • Week 5: 16 Sep 2024 to 19 Sep 2024

Draft Requirements

Submit the following via the MS Form link located inside the booking form.

For WR assignments:

  • A1: Draft should be at least 500 words. Outlines will not be accepted.
  • A3: Draft should be at least 600 words and include the following sections of the proposal:
    • Executive summary.
    • Recommendation and justification.

For Non-WR assignments:

  • A draft of your written assessment (Microsoft word file) and/or presentation slides (Microsoft PowerPoint file).
  • The instruction/question paper.
  • The rubric.

  • Students are limited to one consultation session per assessment. Students who book multiple consultations will have all consultations cancelled.
  • Bookings are on a first-come-first-serve basis. They are not transferable. Students who cancel consultations less than 72 hours in advance will be blacklisted and subsequent bookings for consultations will be cancelled.
  • During the consultation, your coach will go through the draft you sent him/her. This is only fair as the coach will have spent time reviewing this. Please do not expect the coach to go through a different version during the consultation session.
  • Coaches will not provide further feedback or coaching after the consultation session is over.
  • CEC reserves the right to amend/reschedule/cancel bookings.

Instructions on how to book a consultation

  1. Have a completed draft ready (Draft must fulfil the minimum requirements).

  2. Enter the booking platform via the booking link below.

  3. Select the coach and his/her available timing.

  4. Complete the booking form and submit your completed draft via the Microsoft Form link in the booking form.

  5. Please note that your appointment booking will only be confirmed upon submission of the completed draft. Appointments will be cancelled if the completed draft is not submitted.

  6. After you have submitted your draft, return to the booking form to complete your reservation.

  7. A confirmation email will be sent to your SMU email. If you did not receive the confirmation email within 30 minutes of your booking, it means that your booking is not successful.

Walk in to have a quick chat with specially trained student coaches about your writing and presentation. These coaches will help you to overcome the challenges of structuring and delivering your class assignments.

Announcement: Walk-in Clinic sessions are available during Week 4 and Week 5.

  • Each clinic consult is kept to 10 minutes.
  • Join the digital queue by scanning the QR code on the poster outside Meeting Room B1-2. If you are unable to join the digital queue, it means the queue has reached its capacity. Please visit us at the next walk-in session.
  • A queue number does not guarantee a consult. Queue will be managed on a first come first served basis. There will be no extension of clinic hours.
  • You will need to re-join the queue if you miss your number.
  • Coaches reserve the right to decline walk-in consultations if they are not in a position to advise you correctly. Please approach your course instructor for advice instead in such cases.
  • CEC reserves the right to change walk-in clinic opening hours.
